OUR MISSION is to breed the best to the best.

About Carpenter's Kennels

Carpenter's Kennels was started in 1975 with the goal of raising class English Setters that had style, intelligence and bird finding abilities. My first setter, a Wonsover bred male, was an outstanding hunting dog. I then started looking for a female and purchased Herron's Ginger who was a direct daughter of Ch. Grouse Ridge Will. She had previously been bred to Ch Tomoka and I'm Oscar. I sent her back to be bred to I'm Oscar again. During the late 70's and early 80's I continued to send females to Mr. Elwin Smith and his champion setters; Ch. Tomoka, Ch Righteous Dan, Ch. Branigan, Ch Pinnacle and Ch Brawny Lad.

In the early 80's, the NBHA was just getting started; I became involved in helping establish the Missouri chapter. I was the first Secretary and later served as President. This changed our goal from just having quail hunting dogs to being able to produce a setter that could compete with the pointers in walking trials. I continued breeding to such dogs as Ch Wayfarer, Ch Amos Mosley and again to Mr. Elwin Smith's Ch setters. In 1983, a young setter by the name of Bozeann's Mosley, began to set the field trial world abuzz when he won 2 Championships and 2 Runner-up Championships in all four derby Championship trials that year.

I talked to Mr. Bozeman about breeding a daughter of Ch Amos Mosley to Rocky. After meeting Loyd, I quickly realized what a special dog Rocky was. This started a friendship with Loyd and Ruth Bozeman that continues today. I bred numerous females to Rocky that not only produced great hunting dogs, but also produced walking and horseback field trial winners as well. I later raised several litters out of Rocky's son RU Ch Bozeann's Czyz.

In the early 90's I went back to my number one passion which was strictly quail hunting. I began to cut back my breeding program and only raised a couple of litters a year out of a son of Ch Bozeann's Mosley named Carpenter's Sir Charles. In 1996, I purchased a male out of Ch Grouse Ridge Storm and Ch Star's Misty Ghost and named him Carpenter's Storm. He turned out to be the best quail dog and companion I ever owned. I raised a few litters out of him and had some really nice dogs. I had a nice Bozeann's Mosley female that I bred to him and that produced Carpenter's Misty Star and Carpenter's Stormy Girl.

In 2004, I was looking for a stud dog to breed Carpenter's Misty Star to and was introduced to Mr. Bob Barker and his Ch Barker's Blue Jett. This mating produced 3 time Ch Barker's Blue Horizon and Willow Creek Annie. I have bred her 3 more times to Jett and she has produced 5 more winners and some outstanding gun dogs.

Bob Barker and I have recently purchased Ch Barker's Blue Horizon and we plan to continue to campaign her in both horseback and walking championships. I will also run a few other dogs in walking trials, but my number one passion is still Quail hunting. Along with raising Class English Setters, I have increased my breeding program and have several nice females I will be breeding.
